Why your iPhone always charges so slowly – three BIG mistakes you’re making

0

YOUR iPhone could be charging slowly for a number of reasons.

From using the wrong charger to downloading stuff in the background, here are the most common mistakes people make.

Using iPhone or apps

If you want a smooth charge with no lag, take a break from your iPhone.

We know it’s hard to stay away from Instagram and Snapchat, but it could result in your handset hitting max power quicker.

It may also ween you off your social media habit – so it’s a double-win.

Also, if you can, try not to make long phone calls while your phone is charging as this type of activity only serves to slowdown the process.

Downloading in background

Since iOS 7, select apps support a useful feature called Background App Refresh.

This essentially allows them to check for new content even when you’re not actively using them.

You can limit this option to WiFi to save mobile data, but it’s also handy to switch it off altogether when charging your device.

Doing so can help preserve battery juice/

Here’s how: Open Settings>tap General>Background App Refresh>Select the Background App Refresh option.

You can now completely disable the feature by selecting “off” or, below that, selectively turn it off for the listed apps.

To enable it just go through the above steps and turn it back on when you’re done charging.

Using the wrong charger

Apple doesn’t make life easy with the number of chargers it’s put out there.

Your iPhone will have come with a full-size USB to lightning cable, which can then be connected to a charger and plugged in to a power socket or to a port on your Mac.

Out of the two, the quick-charging route is through the mains.

But to make life even harder, Apple also offers newer iPhone owners (anything beyond the iPhone 8) a fast charging option by way of the £19 USB-C to Lightning Cable and £49 USB-C Power Adapter.

The plug is sold separately, but can apparently juice up the latest flagships to 50 per cent in just 30 minutes.

If your device still charges slowly, Apple advises checking for charger damage like breakage or bent prongs.

You should also make sure that the charging port on the bottom of your iPhone is clean and doesn’t contain any gunk or debris.

And if you’re using a third-party charging cable, make sure it carries the “Made for iPhone label” – otherwise it may not work.
