Speaking in her video, she said: “I’m a personal stylist for the everyday woman.

“It’s for all of us ladies who have lumps and bumps. It’s more about your real life.

“Today’s video is an exciting one, it’s probably the most asked question I get on a continual basis – how to disguise a larger belly.”

Here are Melissa’s top tips for nailing your looks if you have a rounder figure…

Bow tie dress

Melissa showed off a navy midi dress that tied at the front, and said it is an “example of the type of dress you should be wearing if you have a larger tummy area.”

She explained: “This is what we describe as a body skimming dress.

“It allows the curves to be seen.

“But the fact there is a tie at the front, that is going to be quite distracting over the tummy area and hopefully hide any extra bulk.

“The extra detailing that is in this dress, such as the pockets give a nice relaxed look, the v-neck is going to help split the bust area up.

“It is really hanging very nice and straight over that tummy area.

“Also things like the split at the front allow the legs to be seen but without actually showing the entire leg.

“The fact we have a little more flesh on show all helps to distract from the tummy area.”

Avoid baggy dresses

Melissa said you should avoid oversized dresses as they are “shapeless” and they make you look “bigger than you are.”

She said: “There is no definition between my bust area, waist and thighs.

“It is just incredibly unflattering.”

Raise elasticated waists

Melissa said you should avoid putting dresses with elasticated waists over your stomach as it puts them “on show.”

She said: “Instead, what you need to do is pull the dress up over the elasticated waist, so that the waistline is created and defined.

“Now, the baggier top will hang wider than the stomach, creating the illusion of a smaller waist.

“Note also the three quarter sleeves, this also helps to draw the eye line to the smallest part of the waist, and showing the wrists is always a benefit as it is often the smallest part of the frame.”

Use drawstring trousers

If you have a “barrel body”, you should avoid pulling tops over tight trousers as it “accentuates”.

Melissa said: “They are simply too tight, the fabric is unforgiving.

“Instead we need to change the type of trousers you are wearing.

“We need to pick a trouser that has flowing fabric with an elasticated waistline where we can choose where to put the waist.”

Always tuck tops in

She advised you should always tuck your top slightly into your waistline, particularly when wearing shirts or T-shirts.

Melissa explained: “When it hangs out like that from the side, it is going to make us look a lot bigger.

“Tuck in the front, roll up the sleeve and straight away we are making some shape.”
