Journalist hints Tottenham player is now Serie A club’s priority transfer target

Italian journalist Claudio Raimondi has revealed that Japhet Tanganga has now overtaken Paris Saint-Germain’s Abdou Diallo as AC Milan’s number one defensive target.

Unlike the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks, who appear to be surplus to requirements for Antonio Conte, Tanganga has travelled with the Tottenham squad to South Korea for pre-season.

However, reports over recent days have indicated that Tottenham would be willing to loan the defender out for the upcoming season (talkSPORT).

Sky Italia claimed last week that the 23-year-old’s agent has held a meeting with representatives from Milan while Gianluigi Longari subsequently reported that Napoli, Southampton and Everton have also expressed an interest in the Spurs academy graduate.

Raimondi has now hinted that the Rossoneri are expected to step up their pursuit of Tanganga, and the reigning Serie A champions could conclude a loan deal for the player over the coming days.

He said on SportMediaset (11/07/22 – as relayed by Milan News and SportWitness): “Tottenham’s Tanganga has overtaken the name of Paris Saint-Germain’s Abdou Diallo for the red and black defence. The deal could be concluded as a loan.”

I have to admit that I thought until a couple of weeks ago that Sanchez was more likely to leave the club this summer than Tanganga was.

Not only is the latter homegrown but he seems like a much better fit for Conte’s back three, with Sanchez lacking the required technical quality on the ball for the Italian’s system.

However, it now appears increasingly likely that Tanganga is set to follow Joe Rodon out of the door while Sanchez would remain at the club as a backup option.
