Report: Middlesbrough make major transfer hint with Djed Spence decision
In what comes as a potential boost to Tottenham’s chances of signing Djed Spence, Middlesbrough have decided not to take the right-back on their pre-season training camp in Portugal, according to Football.London.
Spence has emerged as one of the most exciting talents from the EFL with his performances on loan at Nottingham Forest last season.
The 21-year-old is reportedly Tottenham’s top target for the right wing-back role (Evening Standard) but the North London club have not been able to agree on a deal with Middlesbrough for the youngster in time for him to travel to South Korea for pre-season.
Alasdair Gold revealed on the Gold and Guest talk Tottenham podcast over the weekend that there is confidence in all three camps that a deal to take Spence to Spurs would be agreed.
Middlesbrough’s latest decision appears to be the biggest sign yet that the Championship club expect the deal to go through, as Football.London revealed the England Under-21 international has not travelled with the Boro squad to Portugal.

One would expect this deal to be agreed over the next few days so that Spence can link up the Tottenham squad next week when they return to London. The fact that the 21-year-old is not part of Boro’s pre-season preparations means that an agreement between the two clubs is really close.
