ERIK ten Hag has insisted he is not entirely happy with his Manchester United team – despite their 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool in a pre-season game.

The new boss oversaw a dream start to his reign as the Red Devils ran rampant in the Bangkok-based friendly.

While United fielded the stronger team, there were moments that left fans purring and excited for the new era.

Despite the positives, Ten Hag said there is still work to be done despite the win.

The Dutch boss told MUTV: “I know we have good players, now we have to construct a team. I’m happy with the first game.

“It will take lots of time [to get this team playing my way]. I have seen a lot of mistakes today. Let’s be honest, Liverpool plays in three teams, they were not at their strongest.

“We must not overestimate this result, but still I have seen some really good things. We have a lot of creativity and speed up front. Like I said, we have potential.”

Ten Hag’s unflattering review comes after his tough punishment drills for the players in training were revealed.

Despite the squad being put through their paces by their new boss, they looked fit and raring to go as they blew Liverpool away.

Jadon Sancho opened the scoring after 12 minutes when he fired a shot into the far corner.

The lead was then doubled with a Fred chip after the half-hour mark.

Anthony Martial got the third goal minutes later before Facundo Pellistri put the cherry on top of the cake with the fourth in the second-half.

Tyrell Malacia made his first appearance since joining the club while youngsters Charlie Savage and Zidane Iqbal, both 19, came in for praise for their impact off the bench.
