15 year old Christopher Yoo is now the youngest in the top 20 junior list

Christopher Yoo has officially entered the Junior top 20 rating list. At the ongoing US junior chess championship, Christopher Yoo has gained 15,1 rating points and is currently at his all time high 2565 ELO.

Christopher Yoo is the third highest rated US junior after Hans Niemann (2687 ELO) and Awonder Liang (2617 ELO). With three juniors in the top 20 list, USA is trailing only to India – five juniors including Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa, Nihal Sarin, and Raunak Sadhwani- and equal to Uzbekistan – Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Javokhir Sindarov and Nodirbek Yakubboev.

Born 19 December, 2006, Christopher Yoo is now the youngest player in the top 20 junior list at age 15 years, 6 months, and 24 days.

In March/April 2018, Yoo earned clear first place in the Charlotte Chess Center’s Spring 2018 IM Norm Invitational held in Charlotte, North Carolina with a score of 6.0/9. Yoo won the 2020 US Cadet (under-16) Championship, which was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2021, Yoo tied for first place with GM Peter Prohaszka in the Memorial Day 2021 CCCSA GM Norm Invitational tournament, earning his first GM norm. In September 2021, Yoo won the Labor Day 2021 CCCSA GM Norm Invitational tournament, earning his second GM norm.

In November 2021, Yoo tied for 3rd place in the 2021 US Masters Championship, earning his third GM norm.

On December 12, 2021, Yoo crossed for the first time 2500 ELO after round 5 of the Marshall Chess Club Championship, fulfilling the last requirement for the Grandmaster title.
