Gold falls ahead of U.S. inflation data release

CHICAGO, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Gold futures on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange fell on Tuesday ahead of U.S. inflation data release.

The most active gold contract for August delivery fell 6.9 U.S. dollars, or 0.4 percent, to close at 1,724.8 dollars per ounce.

Gold remained at or near its weakest level in nine months.
