A post of Reddit detailed the story of a bride’s last minute demand from a member of her bridal party.
The Reddit user shared how her high school friend ‘Mary’ insisted that she remove her necklace because “it was nicer than her own jewelry.”
Mary had originally asked to wear the Redditor’s necklace herself, as her “something borrowed,” and when the poster rejected this idea, she was not happy.
After denying the request, the Reddit user detailed how she “received a lot of cold shoulders and dirty looks at the ceremony and reception.”

The bride’s sister even gave the Redditor a talking to for not giving in to the crazy demand.
The user explained in the post that her fiancé had gifted her the necklace to wear on the day, and she had even asked the bride for permission to wear it months earlier.
She was left without her fiancé’s support at the wedding because he had contracted COVID just before the occasion.
“I tried as politely as I could to tell her that my fiancé got this for me to wear to the wedding and especially since he can’t be here, I’d like to keep it on,” she said in her post.

Other Reddit users were torn about the situation, with some commenters agreeing with the bride’s request.
One person wrote: “The compromise could have been to wear a different necklace for the ceremony and photos so as not to upstage the bride, then put it back on for the reception. There will still be photos, and you prevent any upset to the bride.”

“She could/should have just taken the necklace off and not given it to the bride. I’ve only been a bridesmaid once but I 100% only cared about the bride and what she wanted, it was not about me at all,” commented another user.
Others were entirely on the side of the original poster, one user said the necklace would have been “something confiscated.”
“The ‘something borrowed’ needs to be a token lent willingly. Not something taken by force or pressure! Your friend was way out of line,” said one user.
Another person wrote: “From how she’s acting I doubt she’d have even given it back, cause now it’s part of her wedding attire and in her wedding photos so of course she should keep it as a wedding memento.”
“I’ve heard of Bridezillas but this sounds more like the Jurassic Park of wedding parties. Geez bet that friendship is extinct,” said another person.
