I spent $500 at Shein – here’s what was worth it and what didn’t work without alterations
FAST fashion brand Shein offers eye-popping bargains on the latest trends.
One fashion influencer spent $500 on over 60 pieces of clothing, and she was surprised to find most of the outfits exceeded expectations – with a few exceptions.
With over 126k YouTube subscribers and 786k followers on TikTok, fashion vlogger Rosa Elizabeth Carcamo has a huge amount of influence – especially for women who, like her, are petite and have trouble finding fashionable clothes.
When Carcamo received her $500 Shein haul in the mail, she was nervous to unbox and try on all of the pieces she’d purchased.
“I got tops that I wouldn’t wear before,” Carcamo warned viewers. “Most of the clothes I got, I was stepping outside my comfort zone.”
She also confessed that she desperately needed new clothing for herself as she’d stopped shopping for clothes “a long time ago.”

Hence, the $500 haul. “I needed some,” Carcamo said. Her total originally came to $650, but a coupon lowered it to $491.
Carcamo began unboxing the dozens of pieces she bought, which included tank tops, crop tops, swimsuits, and pants, as well as a few graphic tees for her boyfriend Julian.
Trying on the crop tops and halters, Carcamo was relieved that most of them were a perfect fit.
“I’m glad I got everything in a size extra-small,” she told viewers. The first item in her haul that wasn’t a perfect fit was a button-front, rib-knit tee, which she paid $7 for.

“This one is a little bit loose,” Carcamo noted, showing the slight gaping around her chest and midriff and how loosely the top hung from her shoulders.
As she continued trying on her new outfits, Carcamo set up a time-lapse camera montage, providing commentary at different points as she tried clothes on.
The first item to get a definite thumbs-down was a printed romper with a midriff cutout and camisole-style neckline.
Even with an adjustable drawstring at the top of the cutout, the romper didn’t fit snugly against Carcamo’s body, leaving it looking baggy.
Carcamo also had to cover her chest for modesty while trying on some shirts due to the thin, see-through fabric.
There were also a few wrap-style tops she didn’t try on at all.
“I honestly don’t even know how they go,” Carcamo said, adding that while trying to figure out how to wear the complicated shirts, she partially ripped out her navel piercing, causing it to bleed.
“We’re going to leave that right there,” she said, gesturing at the discarded shirts.”
Though she liked all the pants she bought, there was only pair that Carcamo could wear right out of the box.
“Some of the jeans did fit a little big,” Carcamo said, showing that the jeans and cargo pants were simply too long. “My mom knows how to alter pants, so I’m going to take them to her.”
But the jean shorts she bought were a perfect fit. The fashion influencer called them one of her favorite items from the haul – and they only cost $15.
“I’m going to order more if they have more colors,” she said.

Overall, Carcamo was pleased with most of her haul, but she was primarily grateful that she won’t need to shop for clothes again anytime soon.
“I got tired just from standing and trying everything on,” the blogger confessed.
