I’m a former retail worker — the gross reason you should ALWAYS wash your clothes after buying
THE first thing many people want to do after buying new clothes is to start wearing them out and about.
It turns out that you should probably be washing your clothes after purchasing from the store – for hygienic reasons.
TikToker and former retail worker Dana posted a video revealing a store secret that doesn’t sound ideal for shoppers.
Dana, who doesn’t name the store she works in, says: “I don’t know if this is common practice but just wanted to share.”
She describes a former position she had in a retail store where she wasn’t allowed to work without wearing merchandise available on the floor.
Since she and her other co-workers didn’t always buy clothing from their store, they were instructed to do something else instead.

She says: “What ended up happening most of the time is that we would just go into the store, pick something out that wasn’t sold yet, take off the tag, put it on, and work our shift.
“We would work all day. We were sweating. And at the end of our shift, we would take off the clothes, put the tags back on, and then put them back into the store.
“I always thought this was really gross. I did not know that some [other] stores also did this.
“So, I guess this is my PSA to please wash your clothes after buying them. Because they are not as clean as you think.”

Several people have responded in Dana’s comment section about the store secret she revealed.
One person wrote: “I always wash them because many people will have tried them on. But this is also now a new fact.”
“Some people don’t wash their clothes after buying them?” someone else asked.
“Most people I know don’t… I always warn them,” Dana replied.
A third person added: “That’s why I wash every item after buying, even jackets and socks. Just gives me peace of mind.”
