Erik ten Hag responds to Harry Maguire boo boys and tells Man Utd captain to perform to silence them
HARRY MAGUIRE has to shut up the boo boys with his performances on the pitch.
That’s the message from new Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag.
He has shown his faith in Maguire by keeping him as captain.
But that did not stop sections of United fans in Melbourne booing him in the first half in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
That followed a season in which he was also booed by some England fans and he started to get stick at Old Trafford too.
Ten Hag said: “We heard it but if you perform it slows down. Harry and the team impressed by the way they played then it stops.

“It’s about how can we change it and the team and Harry himself can do that by performing.
“That’s what we are working on. That is the only focus.”
Maguire will lead the team again tonight in the fourth game of their pre-season tour of Bangkok and Australia.
They take on Aston Villa here in Perth at a 60,000 sold out Optus Stadium.

The team will fly back to England straight after the game ending a long and exhausting tour to the other side of the world.
But Ten Hag accepts that is part and parcel of being a top Premier League club.
He said: “It is part of football nowadays, you have to accept it as a manager.
“As a team, you have to take the best out of it and that is what we have done.
“I think it’s great for team spirit to be so long together, you can really improve that, develop that, you have a lot of time to work on your team because you are so close together. That is great, I would say.
“It’s brilliant to be in great cities, Bangkok, Melbourne, Perth.
“There are disadvantages, it is clear, but you have to deal with certain things that are decided which you don’t have influence on.”
