I gave my son 27 middle names when he was born, he’s grown up now and I can’t even remember all of them

IT’S NOT uncommon to give your baby more than one middle name, but most people don’t go over two.

But these parents went all out when naming their son and gave him 27 middle names.

His dad explained how it happened on Quora and people were baffled by the name choices.

He explained that when his first son was born in the 1970s he and his wife were fully fledged members of the hippy community and had “an enormous extended family” made up of other hippies.

“We decided we wanted to name him something really unique,” he shared, “something that would reflect this huge love revolution that was storming the planet.”

The parents landed on giving him the first name ‘Rain’, but got the middle names from their many friends.

“[We] then asked each of our dear friends to contribute ONE middle name each,” he revealed.

“That way, he could choose whichever name he wanted to use at any point. We wanted him to like, do his own thing, y’know”

Although he admitted he couldn’t remember a lot of them now, he tried to list some of them off, “Rain, Storm, Thunder, Cloud, Fire, Flight, Ambrose, Elijah, Food, Bird, Hawk, Wind, Ocean…

“I did forget some, though I do remember that the final tally was 27 middle names, each one honouring our new chosen family (very few of whom are even remotely in either of our lives today.)”

He added that despite the lengthy name they always planned on giving their son the option to pick any of the names he liked, or not use any of them at all.

The name “didn’t raise eyebrows for a few years,” because everyone was a hippy at the time, the dad explained.

He continued: “The fascinating part came when he was about three-years-old, we were explaining to him for the umpteenth time that he could choose his own name whenever he wanted to.

“He said ‘I know, daddy! You keep telling me that!’ So we said, “ok, what name do you want to be called now?”

The dad recalled that his son wanted to think about what he really wanted to be called overnight and by the next day he had made a decision.
