Instacart and Chase just launched the first-ever co-branded card by a food delivery service: the Instacart Mastercard® Credit Card. If you frequently use Instacart for grocery delivery, this card could be a good way to maximize your cash back, and you'll even earn bonus cash back on other categories like restaurants and gas stations.

In addition to earning bonus cash back on Instacart and other spending with no annual fee, the Instacart Mastercard is running a limited-time deal for new cardholders: Instacart Mastercard®. The Instacart+ membership, gets you free delivery and reduced service fees.

We're focused here on the rewards and perks that come with each card. These cards won't be worth it if you're paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it's important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford to pay.

Instacart Mastercard rewards and benefits

The Instacart Mastercard® Credit Card is a cash-back card, and its rewards earnings break down as follows:

  • 5% cash back on Instacart purchases made at more than 800 national, regional, and local retail brands from more than 70,000 stores across more than 5,500 cities (including Aldi, Giant, CVS, and Wegmans)
  • 5% cash back on travel purchased through the Chase Travel Center
  • 2% cash back at gas stations and restaurants, and on select streaming services
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases

You can redeem cash back from the Instacart Mastercard® as a direct deposit or statement credit to your account, or you can redeem your cash-back rewards for travel through the Chase Travel Center. Starting in the fall, you'll also have the option to use cash back to pay for all or part of your delivery orders through Instacart.com or the Instacart app, with no minimum redemption amount.

One year of free Instacart+ membership

When you're approved for the Instacart Mastercard®, you'll get a free year of Instacart+ (previously named Instacart Express). This service usually costs $9.99 per month or $99 per year.

Instacart+ benefits include:

  • $0 delivery fee on orders over $35
  • Reduced service fees
  • 5% credit back on eligible pickup orders
  • The ability to share these benefits with family members via a Family Accounts feature

Other features

The Instacart Mastercard® offers additional benefits such as:

  • No annual fee
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Travel and emergency assistance services
  • Purchase protection
  • Extended warranty protection
  • Auto rental collision damage waiver
  • Baggage delay insurance
  • Lost luggage insurance
  • Roadside assistance
  • Travel accident insurance

You'll also have access to World Elite Mastercard benefits, including 24/7 concierge service, access to Mastercard Priceless Experiences, and offers for ride-sharing and online shopping services.

Welcome offer

Is the Instacart Mastercard right for you?

If you're already an Instacart shopper, the Instacart Mastercard® Credit Card could be a great fit. Unlimited 5% cash back on Instacart purchases could help you save on groceries, not to mention drugstore, alcohol, and other purchases you can make through Instacart. It's a cherry on top that you'll also earn 2% cash back at restaurants, gas stations, and on select streaming services, especially with no annual fee.

The welcome bonus is a great way to save on Instacart purchases, especially if you're one of the first 10,000 to get approved and qualify for the $200 statement credit. And starting this fall, you'll be able to redeem cash back toward your Instacart purchases—another cost-saving benefit for those who already use Instacart regularly.

If you don't use Instacart or only use it occasionally, the Instacart Mastercard® might not be the best pick for you. If you prefer to shop for groceries in-store, you could consider the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, which earns you 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $6,000 spent each year, then 1% back) and select streaming services, 3% back at U.S. gas stations, 3% on transit, and 1% on all other purchases (cash back is received in the form of Reward Dollars). There's a cap on how much bonus cash back you'll earn at U.S. supermarkets, but you're not limited to Instacart purchases for earning bonus rewards in this category. However, note that this card has a Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express annual fee.

For those who want to earn bonus cash back on purchases including groceries without paying an annual fee, there's also the Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card, which earns 3% back on dining, entertainment, and grocery store purchases, and 1% back on everything else.

Bottom line

If you're a frequent Instacart shopper, the new Instacart Mastercard® could make a lot of sense, as it gets you a very solid 5% cash back on your Instacart purchases, with no cap on your rewards. Bonus cash back at restaurants, gas stations, and on select streaming services and travel booked through the Chase Travel Center is a nice benefit, too.

Don't wait long to apply if you're interested in this card, since only the first 10,000 applicants who are approved will get the $200 Instacart credit. But even if you miss that cutoff, you'll get $100 in Instacart credit when you're approved, plus the free year of Instacart+.
