LOST Inca ruins at Machu Picchu were discovered by western explorers. One and a half miles above sea level and 50 miles from Cusco, the site had survived for nearly 500 years in splendid isolation. It is one of just a handful of pre-Columbian ruins to be discovered near-intact.
