I’m a lingerie expert – the three worst ways to put on a bra as they’re guaranteed to damage it & what you SHOULD do
HOW do you put on your bra? One lingerie expert warned that certain methods might make getting dressed easier, but could ruin your clothes.
There are three common ways of putting on a bra that can damage your lingerie and cost you money, so avoid them and try the expert-approved method instead.
Nicola Crook is the CEO of lingerie store Bras and Honey, and on TikTok, she busts common bra myths for her 26k followers.
In a recent clip, Crook revealed that common methods for putting on the lingerie item are “guaranteed ways of damaging a bra.”
Crook warned against “the three worst ways to put on your bra and cause maximum damage.” First up was the step-in method.
To demonstrate, she hooked a bra before putting it onto her body, then stepped into the center like it was a pair of pants.

Pulling the bra up her body, Crook struggled to yank the band over her hips and waist, then had to hoist in order to slide her arms through the straps.
Another damaging method for getting dressed, the over-the-head method, started the same way: with the bra already fastened.
This time, Crook pulled the bra over her head like a shirt.
She managed to get her arms through the straps successfully but had to stretch the wires and band over her chest to make sure her breasts were in the bups.

Finally, she demonstrated what many commenters said was their preferred way of putting on a bra: fastening the back and spinning it around.
Starting with an unfastened bra, Crook brought the band around her chest backward, fastening the hooks.
Then, she spun the cups to the front and lifted them up over her chest, shrugging her arms through the straps and snapping them into place.
Crook warned that though this method is often regarded as the most comfortable way to put on a bra, it’s an easy way to twist your underwire, which can poke you in the chest and weaken the bra’s support.
She then demonstrated the safest way to put on a bra – and it requires a little extra dexterity.
“Put the straps on first,” Crook instructed, putting her arms through the bra but leaving it open in the back.
Then, she said, “pull your cups down to get all your boobs in the cups.”
After your arms and breasts are in place, reach behind you and fasten the bra at the back.
Finally, Crook said, “scoop all your boob tissue into the cup,” and adjust as necessary for comfort and aesthetics.
If you have mobility issues or another reason the “reach behind” method doesn’t work, Crook added, you can put your bra on backward and bring the cups around, but move very slowly.
Crook added that the best way you can put on a bra is the way that works for you, but the less twisting and folding you can do, the more comfortable you’ll be and the longer your bras will last.
