Newcastle 2 Nottingham Forest 0: Fabian Schar screamer and Callum Wilson get Magpies off to a flying start

EDDIE HOWE celebrated penning a new long-term deal with Newcastle by guiding his side to victory over newly promoted Nottingham Forest.

After dominating the first half without scoring, a thunderbolt from Fabian Schar after the break finally broke the deadlock.

Steve Cooper’s Forest struggled on their return to the Prem and for the most part were second best at St. James’ Park.

Forest did manage to go into the break level pegging until a moment from magic from Schar just before the hour mark.

Picking the ball up outside the box, the visitors failed to close the defender down.

And the Swiss centre-back made Forest pay, crashing a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the area.

Callum Wilson doubled Toon’s lead with 12 minutes left to play, poking home a Joelinton cross to send the home fans wild.
