Dear Peter,
Yesterday we didn’t make a signing and we are unlikely to do so today either.
We anticipate that there will be an additional zero signings coming to the club over the next 2 – 4 weeks unless we can ship some current players out first.
Whilst we realise there is an enormous difference between the Championship and League 1 we are trying to build a team that can help us retain Championship status, a team that combines the current players with years of Championship struggles along with whatever talent around both in the UK and overseas we can afford on our somewhat limited budget.
But, importantly we are not just working on building our team on the field we are also improving this Club off the field too using the same slim budget.
At the start of the year , after some fan disquiet, we did make an attempt to talk to the fans and put together a list of pledges to our supporters to build this great club.
As one of the pledges we committed to keep our fans updated regularly through monthly updates although we are struggling with that a bit at present. We are also struggling on some of our other pledges such as regular fan-facing activity with senior figures.
As you have seen from recent coverage in the media and on the website the lower stand works are not underway and will not be ready for our first friendly here at St. Andrew’s or the start of the season or indeed possibly the whole season. This is all bound up in a possible takeover, but I can’t talk about that.
However, the most important thing we have done, understanding the economic climate is that we have made season tickets affordable for the Championship season with offers that mean you can come to St. Andrew’s next season for less than last season - although it may mean we have less money to spend on other things.
We did also announce that we were looking at safe standing at St. Andrew’s but that’s caught up in this whole takeover shenanigans too.
As you can see we have all being working hard during the closed season to strengthen the team on the pitch and also strengthen this fantastic Club.
I really hope to see you at the not very much improved St. Andrew’s next season as we try and avoid relegation again
Very good - at least they got my name right!
