It was later reported that the unnamed victim required eight stitches in hospital and suffered permanent facial scarring.

In his victim impact statement he revealed that he is now “wary of going out” for fear of people staring at him.

The assault occurred at The Vault nightclub in Buxton, Derbyshire in September 2021.

The victim reported that Saxon approached him and said something inaudible before slamming the glass into his face.

The video shows that he also got physical with another man, who pushed him away from the victim.

He was shoved into the bar, and launched a smaller glass at the brave stranger in retaliation.

There is currently no word on the motive for the attack, but attacker and victim were known to one another.

Saxon was arrested and answered no comment in police interviews, but later pleaded guilty to assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison for assault at Derby Crown Court.

Prosecuting Saxon, Stuart Lody said: “This is a young man of hitherto good character who carried out an inexplicable attack on someone that he knew.

“There had been no animosity between them, the victim was in a pub in Buxton, stood on the dancefloor talking to a friend when the defendant approached him and said something to him.

“He did not hear what he said but he (Saxon) took a step back and threw a small glass at him hard. It was a punching action and the glass was a shot glass or something like that.”

Defence lawyer James Riley argued that his client had a clean record and that a prison term would endanger his job as a mechanical engineer.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Michael Fowler said: “Glassing, as it is euphemistically known, is always a serious offence because of the nature of the weapon used.

“It often takes place in a public area with others around and often takes place when someone is in drink or drunk.

“I recognise that you are not just of good character but you have led an industrious young life achieving good employment. It is sad when individuals in these circumstances, by one act in a short compass of time, jeopardise that and damage their reputation and future.

“But that’s what you did and this is a grave offence. Grave in the sense that is was a vicious blow that has resulted in an injury which (the victim) suffers and will suffer for the rest of his life. He will always see the scar on his face.”

He is scheduled to be released in July 2023.
