If Hungary and Poland, long seen as the driving forces of the conservative-nationalist eastern half of the EU, want an EU made in their image then they are going to have to create one. It is arguable that countries across conservative central and eastern Europe were subject to a bit of a bait and switch with the EU, sold a beefed-up trade bloc, they found themselves in an ideologically driven political union.
