'Cannot tolerate this type of conduct': Finally, cops involved in Breonna Taylor's death are fired
Termination proceedings were launched for one of two officers still employed with the Louisville Police Department when they were federally charged in Breonna Taylor’s death last week, Louisville Metro Police Chief Erika Shields announced last Thursday. “Today, Chief Erika Shields began termination procedures of Sgt. Kyle Meany and Officer Kelly Goodlett,” the department said in a news release. “While we must refer all questions about this federal investigation to the FBI, it is critical that any illegal or inappropriate actions by law enforcement be addressed comprehensively in order to continue our efforts to build police-community trust.”
Shields, formerly of the Atlanta Police Department, issued a notice informing Meany of her intent to fire him on Monday and sent the letter to reporters on Tuesday, the Courier-Journal reported.
"Your actions have brought discredit upon yourself and the department," Shields wrote to Meany.
