Man, 30, charged after ‘hit and run’ crash kills Cambridge scientist mum and OAP dad as her daughter fights for life

A MAN has been charged following a horror hit-and-run which killed two people and left a child seriously injured.

Five family members were struck by a black Alfa Romeo outside a multi-storey carpark in Ramsgate, Kent, on August 10.

Cambridge physicist Noga Sella, in her 30s, died alongside her father Yoram Hirshfeld, in his 80s, in the collision at around 9.35pm.

Her six-year-old daughter suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a London hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Ms Sella’s husband, in his 40s, and their eight-year-old son sustained minor injuries, it is understood.

Officers arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of a collision.

Nitesh Bissendary, from Manston, has since been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He has also been charged with failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision, drink driving, and failing to provide a sample for analysis.

Bissendary was remanded in custody and will appear before Margate Magistrates’ Court later today.

Investigating officers also arrested a 58-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman on suspicion of assisting an offender and possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Both have since been released on bail pending further enquiries until September 8.

Kent Police have urged anyone with information – including witnesses, local businesses with CCTV, or drivers with dashcam footage – to call the appeal line on 01622 798538 quoting reference DS/DGC/090/22.

A vigil was held on Thursday evening on Leopold Street to pay tribute to the family who were on holiday at the time.

Friends of Mr Hirshfeld, a former mathematics professor at Tel Aviv University in Israel, have spoken of his kindness.

Tributes have also been paid to Ms Sella, also known as Ms Hirshfeld, who was a girl guides leader with 2nd Milton Guides and Milton Rangers in Cambridgeshire.
