Off-duty deputy robbed at gunpoint in Dublin, suspects arrested in Oakland

DUBLIN — An off-duty Alameda County sheriff’s deputy was robbed at gunpoint Friday afternoon at a Dublin shopping center and two suspects were later arrested in East Oakland, authorities said.

The robbery happened about 12:35 p.m. Friday in a parking lot at the Hacienda Crossings Shopping Center.

The deputy, a five-year-veteran, was robbed of some jewelry by a male with a gun, Alameda County Sheriff’s Lt. Ray Kelly said. The deputy was not hurt.

The suspect fled in a vehicle driven by another person.

Kelly said some plainclothes deputies happened to be in the area, spotted the suspects’ vehicle and began following it.

The suspects drove on Interstate 580 to Oakland, where they got off at the 98th Avenue offramp and apparently crashed, authorities said. The suspects fled the vehicle on foot.

Deputies and Oakland police officers responded to the area and both suspects were taken into custody by 1 p.m. in the area of 98th and Stearns avenues, authorities said.
