In Video: Iraqi Airstrike Hits Hideout Of Senior ISIS Leaders In Hamrin Mountains
On August 20, a fighter jet of the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) carried out a pinpoint airstrike on a hideout of ISIS in Hamrin mountains in the northern Iraqi province of Saladin.
In a statement, the Security Media Cell said that the hideout was targeted based on information provided by the Counter Terrorism Service and the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency.
Senior leaders of ISIS were reportedly taking shelter in the hideout when it was struck. The Security Media Cell said that their names and positions will be revealed soon.
“Intelligence agencies are working according to a well-thought-out plan to end the presence of ISIS terrorist gangs on Iraqi soil,” the cell said in its statement.
ISIS been very active in the northern, eastern and western regions of Iraq. The terrorist group’s cells carried out seven operations over the past week, five in the northern province of Kirkuk, one in the eastern province of Diyala and another in western province of al-Anbar. The terrorist operations killed or wounded seven Iraqi military personnel, fighters of the Tribal Mobilization Unit and civilians.
The IQAF stepped up its combat operations against ISIS cells across Iraq the last few months. As a result, the terrorist group sustained heavy human and material losses.
