[Volleyball] Volleyball Falcons tripped up at OPSU
Goodwell, Okla. – The Friends University Falcons fell for the first time in the 2022 season, dropping a 3-1 decision at the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies today (Aug. 20) in Goodwell, Okla.
The match started on the right note for the Falcons, with Sarah Lazar (SR/Rose Hill, Kan. ) hitting two kills to spark five straight points that turned a slim 11-10 edge into a 16-10 cushion.
With the lead now at 21-18, consecutive kills by Lazar helped the Falcons win their seventh straight set to open the 2022 season 25-19 and take the lead in the match.
But from there, it was all OPSU, as the Aggies tied the match with a 25-18 win in the second before cruising to 25-14 and 25-12 wins in the next two sets to close out the contest.
Lazar again led the Falcons (2-1) with 13 kills and Maddy Strecker (SO/Hutchinson, Kan. ) had a team-high 20 assists. Antonia Perier (SO/Bakersfield, Calif.) paced three Falcons in double-figure digs with 13 on the day.
Essence West had a team-best 12 kills for the Aggies and Lesly Galarza led the way with 24 assists. Gracie Soza recorded a match-high 15 digs for OPSU (3-0).
The Falcons will next be in action at the Shin Dig Tournament next weekend in San Antonio, Texas.
