Sports briefs: Redwood opens season with win against Branson
Ainsley Gallagher shot a 4-over-par 40 on the front nine at Meadow Club Monday to guide the Redwood High girls golf team to a pair of wins against Branson and Marin Catholic.
With the top four scores counting, Gallagher was one of three Redwood players to card a 41 or lower en route to a 164 team score — comfortably better than Branson (196) and Marin Catholic (204). Gracie Rider and Sissy Lim both shot 41s for the Giants (2-0) while Lexi Ferguson shot a 41 for MC (0-1).
The league-opening win against the Bulls (0-1) avenged a pair of losses Redwood took last season. Branson was a perfect 16-0 in league last year while Redwood posted a 14-2 record with both losses coming at the hands of the Bulls. Branson was missing one of its top players on Monday.
- Ryan Magnussen fired a 36 on the back nine at Meadow Club to lead Archie Williams to a 214-224 victory over Terra Linda Monday. Piper Egan led the Trojans with a 46.
- Lola Spendov shot a 42 at Mill Valley Golf Club to lead Tam to a 192-248 victory over Novato on Monday. The Red-tailed Hawks’ Alex Forbes and Allisa Ducati each shot a 49. Novato was paced by Brianna Georgeson’s 57.
