Drivers blown away by clever car key hack every motor owner needs to know – and it’ll definitely come in handy
DRIVERS have been blown away by a clever car key hack that could save them from being locked out of their vehicles.
The tip has gone viral on TikTok and could save motorists hundreds of pounds spent on locksmiths and repairs if their electronic key fob stops working.
TikTok user Tom Iconic showed the hack to his 2.1 million followers[/caption] The key fob pops open to reveal a hidden key[/caption]Tom Iconic, who boasts 2.1 million followers on the video sharing platform, put out a clip showing the hidden feature in most key fobs.
Using his Ford car keys he showed how a part of the fob pops off to reveal a hidden key within.
He then shows a keyhole on the left hand part of his car’s door handle, where the key can be used to open the car should the electronic locking fail.
It can also be used to start cars which usually use remote starting.
The mind-blowing video has racked up 117,000 likes and attracted a number of comments.
Reactions ranged from shock to amazement, with some commenters pointing out they had no idea about this hidden feature.

However, others were quick to say that it was obvious and the fact that some were amazed showed a generational divide.
One joked: “Here I am with a 10-year-old Skoda Fabia which only uses a key.”
Another challenged: “Find me someone that doesn’t know this.”
On the other hand, several of the commenters said that they owned a car for several years before working out the hack.
Different models of cars have different features but most have one similar to this.
Some key fobs have a button that causes the key to flick out on top of the fob while others have the key hidden within.
Drivers are advised to check their vehicle’s manual if in doubt.

Other common hidden features include remote starting, opening the boot or folding in wing mirrors, all using the electronic key fob.
Some models even have fobs which “remember” preferred seat settings and will adjust your seat before you enter the car.
