Florida Republicans, anti-LGBTQ harassment account push smear about Crist running mate

Florida’s fascist Republican governor is pushing a lie that his Democratic opponent’s newly announced running mate personally protected a sexual predator during her work as a teacher’s union president, online newsletter Popular Information reports. The smear campaign originated from the anti-LGBTQ Libs of TikTok harassment account that already has previous ties to the governor’s office.

Popular Information said that Ron DeSantis, along with the Florida GOP, have pushed a lie that Karla Hernández-Mats "protected a sexual predator for years and accompanied him through numerous investigations into his sexual assaults of multiple students." But this is a lie, the report said. When Orlando Sentinel questioned the governor’s office on the smear, an aide refused to directly answer. “Asked what proof the governor had for the basis of his allegations, Bryan Griffin, the governor’s press secretary, deferred the question to campaign staff,” the Orlando Sentinel reported.
