I gave my salon a photo of the red hair I wanted – they messed up so bad I refused to pay
A NIGHTMARE trip to the salon left one woman in tears when her stylist botched an autumn-red dye job.
The client posted the horrifying progression of her salon trip online, where viewers were left aghast and full of sympathy.
Balie Destefano recorded her salon visit because she intended to make her own version of a popular TikTok trend.
“I was going to make one of those cute ‘to the salon’ TikToks,” Destefano explained in the caption of her video, which captured a very different outcome.
First, she shared the inspiration photo she’d brought to her stylist, which showed a burgundy color effortlessly blended through dark brown hair.
Then, she shared the photos from her own salon visit. “This is what I got,” Destefano wrote over the clips of herself in the salon chair.

In the first few segments, nothing seemed amiss. Destefano showed her hair being separated out, then bleached and rinsed by the stylist.
But the bleach job left her hair completely orange, dry, and straw-like.
Her burgundy dye didn’t help matters much: instead of a smooth balayage, the red color was applied straight on with a blunt line at the roots.
And even after styling, the ends of Destefano’s strands looked crispy and unkempt.

In the caption, Destefano also dropped another bomb: “she tried to charge me $400,” she wrote.
Outraged viewers flooded Destefano’s comments section to express condolences, and insist that she receive a refund.
“How did you tell her you weren’t paying $400?” one person asked. “I’m always too scared to say anything. I pay and leave and cry at home.”
“I hope you’re not going back to the same person,” another added.
Destefano reassured everyone that she wasn’t forced to pay.
“I didn’t pay it,” she said. “I was crying in the chair so she refunded me.”
A few others said they’d had similar problems trying to go from a dark brown or black hair color to red.
“The same thing happened to me!” one woman said. “I left and walked outside and my hair was BRIGHT pink.”
The stylist’s technique left everyone confused too.
“Where are the lowlight pieces? It’s a balayage, light and dark,” a different person asked. “My eyes are bad and even I can see that.”

“At least they refunded you so you can go to someone that knows what they are doing,” an optimistic viewer wrote.
And indeed she did: Destefano was able to get her hair fixed by a different stylist days later, she told her concerned followers.
