But with many of us living busier lives than ever before, maintaining a spotless home seems an impossible task.

However, this doesn’t stop many of us from trying, and when faced with a domestic mess we’re uncertain of how to tackle, a quick Google search can solve any problem.

MAKE TIME

Home experts show how often you should clean each item in your living room

They then got experts to reveal cheap tricks to making sure you’re cleaning your home properly.

First off is the washing machine.

Being used so often means washing machines are prone to scum and limescale buildup, but a simple remedy of white vinegar, which costs around 40p, and baking soda can go a long way in refreshing both the drum and dispensers.

First Spray the white vinegar all around the inside of the drum, making sure to clean the rubber door seal too.

Then pour 500ml of white vinegar into the detergent drawer and set to a standard hot wash.

And add around 60-70grams of baking soda into the drum and run through again.

They also revealed some handy cleaning hacks for mattresses.

We spend a third of our lives sleeping on them, but how do we give them a really deep clean and remove stains?

Before cleaning, make sure to vacuum and remove all debris.

Gently dab any stains using a cloth or a sponge with a mixture of lukewarm water and a gentle laundry detergent or baking soda.

For a more general refresh, then spritzing with a gentle fabric deodoriser and leaving the mattress to air will work wonders.

Remember to let your mattress dry completely before putting sheets back on.

In a spray bottle, mix a 50:50 solution of white vinegar and distilled or filtered water (as tap water can leave residue once it’s dry).

Spray the solution onto a microfibre cloth, and gently rub circles into the screen until all streaks and smears are removed.
