I once worked with a woman who grew up in Poland when it was still a Communist state. She knew of people who made the mistake of speaking against the regime and were taken away in the middle of the night, never to be seen again. Can you imagine living like that?We who live comfortable lives in Canada cannot fully appreciate what Mikhail Gorbachev did to free up that part of the world.
