Is there any sport on this weekend after the Queen’s death including Premier League and horse racing?

THE United Kingdom is in mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth.

As a result of Her Majesty’s passing, sport events are at risk of NOT happening this weekend – and the sporting world is treating national mourning with sensitivity.

There are numerous fixtures in the Premier League that have been scheduled to take place, as well as rugby, boxing, horse racing and cricket. 

And SunSport has knowledge of what events are set to be postponed and what events will go ahead

Which sporting events are postponed?

There are ten Premier League clashes scheduled for this Saturday, Sunday and next Monday. 

Manchester City’s top four battle against Tottenham whilst Manchester United encounter Crystal Palace.

Royals to officially mourn Queen for at least two weeks at Charles' wish

Chelsea take on West London rivals Fulham, Liverpool take on Wolves and Arsenal host Everton.

The remainder of the fixtures are Leicester vs Aston Villa, Southampton vs Brentford, West Ham vs Newcastle, Bournemouth vs Brighton and Leeds vs Nottingham Forest.

But unfortunately for football fans, the Premier League have announced that all fixtures have been postponed and EFL matches have been called off too.

Thursday night’s Premiership Rugby Cup match between Northampton Saints and Saracens was postponed following the tragic announcement of Her Majesty’s death.

However, tonight’s Premiership rugby games of Bristol vs Bath and Sale vs Northampton are expected to go ahead as normal.

As of Friday morning, all golf at the BMW PGA Championship is remains suspended and further updates are set to follow.

Will any sports be going ahead?

Formula One president and CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that the Italian GP this weekend will go ahead as planned.

Domenicali paid his tributes to the Queen by saying “Formula 1 sends its deepest condolences to the Royal Family and to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”

The Super Rugby League have announced that they will “pay its respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll the period of national mourning”.

But the Super League Elimination Play-Off in Perpignan will go ahead as scheduled, with a minute’s silence before kick-off, and the players of Catalans Dragons and Leeds Rhinos wearing black armbands.
