I remember that day. Dark. Painful. On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, I was eating breakfast while watching the “Today Show” at my house in Birmingham, Alabama. Our cat Oliver, a beautiful Himalayan ball of fur, was purring and wanting some of my food. I began to pet him when I heard the news, “An airplane just crashed into the South Twin Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.” I froze then slowly peered at the television to see the plane disappear into the building followed by a huge mass of fire and smoke.
