Siddaramaiah was the chief minister during the five-year Congress regime from 2013, but the party lost power in 2018 assembly polls. The BJP emerged the single largest party, but without a majority. It paved the way for a coalition arrangement between the Congress and JD(S) that collapsed in about a year.
