Luctonians, in their first game in the new National 2 West blew, new comers Old Redcliffians away after conceding an early try to reply with 6 tries of their own.
Sam Rees ran in unopposed for Old Reds after 3 minutes (0-5), before Louis Silver kicked the first of his 14 points from a penalty (3-5), before Ashley Groves replied also from a penalty (3-6). Silver kicked his second penalty to bring the score back to 6-8. But that was the last the Old Reds saw of being ahead as Lucs played with confidence and with some flare to delight the big home crowd.
Ben Link crashed over following a Lucs driving maul after 26 minutes, Silver converting before the dancing full back Josh Watkins slipped tackles, after being put through by Silver, to score the first of his two tries on the half hour (20-8). Ben Owen added to the tally when a cross field kick from Tom Jones was collected by Charlie Grimes who slipped Owen a deft pass to touchdown, Silver again converting. Jonathon Cook reduced the deficit on half time when he collected Luxfords deft chip to send the teams in at oranges 27-15.

Luctonians RFC 27 v 15 Old Redcliffians RFC
The excellent Josh Watkins weaved his way over again after 50mins, this while Chris Pursall was in the bin for foul play for Old Reds, Silver converting (34-15).
Josh Nott of Lucs followed him after collecting a ‘team yellow’, and straight afterwards Owien Harriott-Davis picked up a loose ball almost from the restart following a line out drive to add to the score. Tom Jones completed the scoring (44-15) when he intercepted a loose pass on half way to run in with no tacklers in sight to send the home support home well pleased with an excellent first victory of the season.
This was a big response from Luctonians following last week’s defeat at Dings Crusaders, which also served to give Old Redcliffians an insight into how competitive this league will be after their victory over Newport last week over.
