Was The Queen the longest-serving monarch in the world?
Queen Elizabeth II sadly died during her Platinum Jubilee year.
Just months before her September passing, the UK had enjoyed a long June bank holiday weekend marking Her Majesty’s impressive and historic 70 years on the throne.
Concerts, parades, street parties and Buckingham Palace balcony appearances were held to celebrate the joyous occasion.
Elizabeth II had long been the country’s longest-serving monarch, surpassing Queen Victoria’s 63 years many moons ago – but did The Queen also hold the world title?
Well, Her Majesty was not far off…
Was The Queen the longest-serving monarch in the world?
Queen Elizabeth II goes down in history as the world’s second longest-serving monarch.
Her Majesty reigned over us for 70 years and 214 days – from February 6, 1952 to September 8, 2022, the day she died.
However, it is King Louis XIV of France who holds the title of longest-serving in the world.
He ruled for more than 72 years – from May 14, 1643 to September 1, 1715.
Queen Elizabeth II remains the record holder for the longest-serving monarch in UK history, though.
Two other global monarchs also reigned for 70 years, albeit for less time than The Queen: King Bhumibol the Great of Thailand, and also Johann II, Prince of Liechtenstein.
