3 kids dead in apparent Brooklyn drowning, woman in custody: NYPD
CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn (PIX11) — Three young children died from apparent drowning early Monday in Coney Island, and a woman believed to be their mother was taken into custody, according to the NYPD.
Authorities first found a woman they presume to be the children's mother walking barefoot near Brighton 6th Street in Brighton Beach around 3 a.m., officials said. Police then found the three children laid out on the beach approximately two miles away, near West 35th Street in Coney Island with apparent signs of drowning, authorities said.
A girl, 4, and two boys, one 7 and the other as young as 3-months-old, were rushed to a nearby hospital. They were initially listed in critical condition, but all ultimately succumbed to their injuries.
Police said that the adult woman appeared to be suffering from mental health issues. She was taken to a nearby police station, but no charges were immediately announced.
