LET’S face it, few people enjoy cleaning and can think of much better ways to spend their time.

But a self-confessed cleaning queen has revealed her top six tips to help get the job done quickly – even if cleaning is the last thing you want to be doing.

Speaking exclusively to Fabulous, home expert Lisa Slack, who is a Head of Product at Thomas Sanderson, has shared the cleaning jobs that take just ten minutes – and will ensure your house is always spotless.

1. Vacuum over and under your rugs

Firstly, Lisa advises thoroughly hoovering your rug to remove any dust that has collected over time.

“As well as vacuuming the top of your rug, make sure you turn it over and give it a quick spruce underneath before repeating on its ‘original’ side,” she explains.

“Rugs are silent collectors of dust and debris and can hold on to bad smells if they’re not cleaned regularly.”

The home expert goes on to offer advice on achieving an “even deeper clean.”

“Try sprinkling some baking soda on to your rug to freshen up the fluff,” she says.

2. Spruce up your windows

Lisa points out that a quick once over on your windows can leave them looking shiny as new.

“This will just remove those sticky stains you’ve been avoiding for weeks,” she says.

“Try combining 50% water with 50% vinegar to produce your own window cleaning solution.”

And according to the cleaning guru, the trick is all in the technique you use.

“Use a sponge or microfibre cloth and spray it all over the window before wiping in a “Z shaped motion,” she explains. “If you’re super speedy, you might even be able to clean a whole bay window!”

3. Load or unload the dishwasher

Getting the dishwasher loaded or unloaded will save you time after your next meal, according to Lisa.

“It’ll prevent that dreaded feeling when you’ve just finished your next meal and there’s still dishes left in the dishwasher,” she says.

“Whilst you have a spare few minutes, get it unloaded.”

4. Fold and put away a load of laundry

We know that putting away clean laundry can seem like a mundane task, but the reality is, it doesn’t take long.

“Find time “in between” other jobs you’re doing around the house to put those clean clothes away,” explains Lisa. “Maybe a good time is whilst dinner is in the oven?”

She adds: “This will save you time rummaging through the clean clothes pile in the morning when you’re in a rush to get to work!”

Helping you make better choices

As we head back into our autumn routines Tesco understands that we all want to make choices for our family at the right prices – even when times are tight.

That’s why Tesco has created Better Baskets. With value at its heart, Better Baskets is all about helping us make better choices in the food we buy, the meals we make and the packaging we use. Lots of the products are on Aldi Price Match, Clubcard prices or Everyday Low Prices, too!

Look out for the Better Baskets logo every time you shop – it’s an easy way to help you fill your basket with better choices.

 5. Give your kitchen counters a quick wipe down

“We’re all guilty of it…cooking a lovely meal for our dinner, enjoying it, putting the dirty pots in the dishwasher and forgetting to wipe down the splash of spaghetti sauce on the counter,” says Lisa.

“Once the pots are loaded into the dishwasher, quickly grab your kitchen counter spray and a microfibre sponge cloth to wipe down your surfaces.”

The home expert goes onto highlight the importance of getting into the habit of doing this every time you cook to help keen on top of it.

6. Do the ‘collection run

Hands up if you’ve ever misplaced items, only to find them in the most random of locations around the house.

Well, turns out you’re not alone.

But no fear! Lisa’s ’10 minute collection’ run is the perfect technique to use to prevent this from happening in the future.

“Set aside 10 minutes everyday to grab a laundry basket and walk through your home quickly picking up any items that aren’t in the correct place,” says Lisa.

“Return the items to the right room in the house. It’ll save you fretting the next day when you can’t find them!”
