World Anti-Doping Agency to keep cannabis on list of banned substances: WSJ

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is expected to keep cannabis on its prohibited substance list in 2023, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. The move comes after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency pushed for a rule change on cannabis after sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was suspended and cut from the U.S. Olympic team last year for testing positive for cannabis. The agency's prohibited list expert advisory group has recommended that the cannabis ban remain in place, based on available scientific evidence. The World Anti-Doping Agency said the 2023 prohibited substance list is still provisional until its Sept. 23 meeting. The agency typically follows the recommendations of its advisory group. The Global X Cannabis ETF is down 50.8% in 2022, compared to a 22.6% drop by the Nasdaq.
