Gennady Golovkin’s coach notifies Vegas ‘robbery division’ to ‘prevent a third theft by the judges’ in Canelo trilogy

GENNADY GOLOVKIN’S coach has “notified the Las Vegas Police Department’s robbery division” to “prevent a third theft by the judges”.

The tongue-in-cheek remark, made by Johnathon Banks, comes ahead of GGG’s trilogy bout with Canelo Alvarez over the weekend.

Canelo was deemed fortunate to walk away with a draw against the Kazakh puncher in 2017, despite winning their epic rematch a year later.

So perhaps fearing the judges could again favour the Mexican superstar, 32, Banks wants to avoid feeling hard done by.

He said: “I have notified the Las Vegas Police Department’s robbery division to be on-site at T-Mobile Arena.

“Hopefully they can prevent a third theft by the judges.”

Banks replaced Abel Sanchez after Golovkin’s majority decision loss to Canelo four years ago.

Canelo vs GGG 3 fight purse: How much are boxers getting for trilogy bout?

And they have won four fights since linking up and building towards a third and likely final bout with Canelo.

Golovkin said: “It’s an amazing achievement to have a trilogy, being 40 and having the biggest fight in boxing, currently. Trilogies are amazing.

“We see how they bring to light the best we have in boxing, that’s why boxing is so exciting and why fights like this go into history.

“People remember it for a very, very long time.”

Golovkin is stepping out of the 160lb middleweight division to jump up to 168lb and challenge for Canelo’s undisputed crown.

And despite Alvarez’s vow to retire his great rival, GGG warned there is still plenty of fight left in him.

He said: “I would love to have a fight in my home country of Kazakhstan. You’ll see me in the ring (again), most likely I’ll continue.”
