His testimony in the murder trial was central to the conviction of Adnan Syed due to the nature of his account of events.

The podcast attracted global attention, and had gained more than 100 million downloads by June 2016.

Notably, Jay Wilds declined to be a part of the podcast although he was offered an interview.

The podcast alleged that there was inconsistencies between his police statements and the testimony he gave at Syed’s second trial.

Adnan’s release on September 19, 2022 was attributed to various factors, including the prosecution losing faith in Jay’s testimony.

Other cited factors include the discovery of new suspects and concerns about a detective who worked on Syed’s case.

The prosecution are not saying Adnan is innocent, however.

Instead, the state has 30 days to decide whether to re-trial or drop the case against Syed.

How did Jay Wilds meet Adnan Syed?

Jay Wilds was Adnan Syed’s classmate at Woodlawn high school, Baltimore.

They were introduced to each other in 1998.

According to Jay, him and Adnan were not incredibly close at school.

What role did Jay Wilds play in Hae Min Lee’s death?

Jay alleged that Syed had told him he had murdered Lee.

He also said he helped Syed dispose of Lee’s body in Leakin Park, where she was found four weeks after she was last seen alive on January 13, 1999.

Wilds’ first taped interview with police occurred on February 28, 1999.
