Expert Judith Miller’s face lit up when she spotted the object and said: “I love costume jewellery, I always have done.”

The green and gold necklace was bought years ago in an Australian antique shop, it’s owner revealed.

Speaking about why she purchased the necklace, the guest said: “It’s simplicity, it’s colour – it really just appealed.”

“I really just loved it straight away.”

The guest said she had just started her first ever job and decided to treat herself when she lodged her first pay check.

She paid $30 Australian dollars for the piece.

Judith then told her that it was “really high quality” costume jewellery and “incredibly well made”.

The expert continued to say she thought it was French and definitely made in the 1950s.

While her comments delighted its owner, Judith left her speechless when she made a valuation on the necklace.

She estimated the necklace to be worth between £400 to £500.

Speaking after hearing the news, the Australian guest said: “I’m absolutely blown away, I’m just so impressed.

“I mean I was 16, had absolutely not idea what I was doing, bought something I loved and it’s amazing to hear that it’s actually worth something.

“Go with your gut, buy things that you love, she concluded.

Antiques Roadshow airs on BBC One and iPlayer.
