Haitian migrants and advocates call for justice on one-year anniversary of Del Rio abuses

This week marks one year since Haitian migrants who were seeking refuge in the U.S. endured mistreatment at the hands of U.S. border agents on horseback. The long-awaited investigation into the Del Rio abuses failed to interview even just one Haitian migrant, resulting in the report being discredited by many advocates as “whitewashed” and “self-serving.”

Victims and witnesses were also deported, part of the thousands sent back to Haiti under the debunked Title 42 policy originally implemented under the watch of white supremacist Donald Trump adviser Stephen Miller. While they were erased from the official government report, they are using the anniversary of the abuses to share their stories.
