[Volleyball] Curtis & Hitt Show Strong For Hawks in Loss to ACU
GLENDALE, Ariz. – Battling in every set, the San Diego Christian College volleyball team showed incredible promise in a 0-3 (22-25, 22-25, 19-25) loss Friday at Arizona Christian University. Although they fell in straight sets, the Hawks were evenly matched with the Firestorm leading late in each frame.
Jaelah Curtis would earn the first kill of the evening for San Diego Christian in set one to knot the score at 2-2. The Hawks would jump out to a 7-4 lead on additional kills by Teresa Ochoa and Kourtney Hitt. Hitt, seeing her first action of the season for SDCC would contribute throughout the match giving the Hawks a new source of additional offensive firepower. The two squads would battle point-for-point and it looked as if it would be either team's to take late with the score tied 20-20. Unfortunately, the Firestorm would go on a 5-2 run to capture the opener.
In set two, the Hawks came out of the gates firing and led nearly the entire way. Outstanding hitting by Hitt and Curtis would allow SDCC to take a 22-17 late lead with a win easily in their sights. The host Firestorm would return from a timeout, however, to unthinkably outscore the Hawks 8-0 earning a 2-set advantage.
Again, the third set would seemingly belong to the Hawks leading late 17-14. Once again, however, ACU would close strong going on a 11-2 run to claim the set and the match.
