Youngsville man pleads guilty to striking, paralyzing cyclist in Lafayette
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - A Youngsville man pled guilty to charges of attempted manslaughter after admitting he intentionally struck a bicyclist with his car in 2018.
The victim, who sustained a broken back with a severed spinal cord, is now paralyzed from the waist down.
According to District Attorney Don Landry, two witnesses told authorities that on January 31, they saw a person driving a Silver Toyota 4Runner strike the victim with his vehicle in the Southpark Shopping Center on Pinhook Road.
Landry said when detectives located the vehicle, Adams admitted to police that he intentionally struck the victim.
Under a plea agreement, he faces a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of 20 years in prison, Landry said.
"This young man's life will never be the same after this violent attack, but it is some degree of justice and closure that we were able to provide to him," Landry said.
