Sports Briefs: Tam’s rackets sweep past San Rafael
Lina Stuart moved up to No. 1 on the singles ladder for Tam on Wednesday and proved she was up for the challenge as she defeated San Rafael’s Shaylee McCulley, 6-1, 6-0, to lead the Hawks past the Bulldogs, 7-0.
Maria-Jose Stuart, Louise McGinness and Hannah Periana also scored singles wins in straight sets for the Hawks.
- The Falcons didn’t drop a set as Archie Williams swept Novato, 7-0, on Tuesday. Archie Williams’ No. 1 singles player, Carly Amborn, continues to be a dominant force with her 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Hornets’ Payton Grafeld. The Falcons’ Amalya Rajpana also won 6-1, 6-0 over Taylor Wong at No. 3 singles.
Girls golf
Low medalist Amy Yang fired a 34 t lead the Branson School past Terra Linda, 173-183, at McInnis on Wednesday.
Trojans freshman Mia Schlotman carded a career-low 44.
- Piper Egan earned low medalist honors with a 46 at Marin Country Club to lead Terra Linda past Novato, 227-247, on Tuesday. Briana Georgeson led the Hornets with a 52.
Women’s golf
Dominican finished 10th at the Wasatch Invitational after the final round Tuesday at Glenmoor Golf Course in South Jordan, Utah.
Claire Shubin started slow with back-to-back rounds of 5-over 77 but she had things rolling in the final round as back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 helped her make the turn at even par. She continued that pace in the front nine as she followed her two bogeys with a birdie each time to remain at even par and move up 10 spots into a tie for eighth. She was second among PacWest competitors to Madison Voisard of Biola who finished one stroke ahead of Shubin at 9 over to tie for sixth.
In the final round of competition Angelica Antonio shot her second consecutive round of 6-over 78 to finish tied for 26th overall at 21 over par. Alissa Salazar used a strong front nine with five pars in the final round to push her four spots up the individual leaderboard into a tie for 56th at 42 over par where she was tied with her teammate Crystal Yi. Kelsey Bas rounded out the team with a 57 over par to finish in 66th overall.
Dominican will be back on the course for the Sonoma State Fall Invitational beginning Monday at Valley of the Moon Club.
