Pakistan Stresses Improving Pak-Afg Relations by Increased Bilateral Trade

The president of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, said that there is a need to strengthen ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan with a focus on expanding bilateral trade, local media reported.

Dr. Alvi met with Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani, the Head of Mission of the Pakistan Embassy in Afghanistan, on Wednesday, September 28, and said that the peace will allow Afghanistan to become a regional connectivity corridor for trade and energy.

The head of state of Pakistan in the meeting held at the Pakistani presidential palace, Aiwan-e-Sadr, also stated that Pakistan could provide both male and female Afghan students with high-quality education without requiring them to physically attend educational institutions.

The Pakistani official reportedly offered recorded or online educational programs from the Virtual University and the Allama Iqbal Open University of Pakistan, given that the Taliban in Afghanistan had enforced restrictive regulations concerning education and Afghan women.

A stable Afghanistan, he continued, would also facilitate the development of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline, and power projects that have been suspended in Afghanistan due to the turmoil, one of which is CASA-1,000.

The political instability in Afghanistan resulted in the suspension of the multinational Casa-1,000 project, a project to develop a power line connecting central and southern Asia.

This comes as the Chargé d’Affaires of the Pakistani embassy in Afghanistan stated the reinstatement of the duty exemptions for various Afghan exports, as well as funding for the Jinnah hospital in Kabul.
