[Women's Soccer] Women's Soccer Falcons slip by Swedes to stay perfect in KCAC
WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons scored two unanswered goals to pull out a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Bethany College Swedes in KCAC action tonight (Sept. 28) at Adair-Austin Stadium.
The win moves the Falcons to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the KCAC, continuing their best conference start since the 2019 season.
After Melissa Estrada put in a free kick off the crossbar and into the back of the net to put Bethany on top and snap the Falcons' scoreless streak at 393:05, Natalie Amaya (JR/Wichita, Kan. ) quickly answered by blasting a shot into the left side of the net off an assist from Hanon Nakagami (FR/Urayasu City, Japan) less than two minutes later in the 33rd minute.
The match stayed even until Yairee Perez (SO/Arlington, Texas) took feeds from both Gianna Honda (FR/Irvine, Calif. ) and Keily Larosee (SO/Las Vegas, Nev.) and blasted in the eventual game-winning goal from the near post at the 72:59 mark.
The Falcons controlled possession throughout, outshooting the Swedes 15-2 overall and 7-1 on-goal.
Maria Smyth (JR/Fairplay, S.C.) played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Falcons to pick up her third win of the season.
Mackenzie Nutter allowed two goals and stopped five shots for Bethany (1-6, 0-3 KCAC).
The Falcons will next host Southwestern College for Senior Night Saturday (Oct. 1). Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm at Adair-Austin Stadium.
