[Volleyball] Volleyball Falcons drop tough 3-0 match at Sterling
Sterling, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons fell 3-0 in three tough sets at the Sterling College Warriors in a KCAC matchup tonight (Sept. 28) in Sterling, Kan.
The Warriors took the first set 25-20, but the Falcons made the second set interesting all the way to the end.
Trailing 24-19, the Falcons saved four set points thanks to kills from Sarah Lazar (SR/Rose Hill, Kan. ), Cajia Crawford (SR/Wichita, Kan.) and Mikaela Pachner (SR/Cimarron, Kan. ) to come within one point.
But a kill by Emily Peterson allowed Sterling to escape with the second set 25-23 and a commanding 2-0 lead overall.
With the third set even at 17-17, the Warriors managed to score eight of the final 11 points and got consecutive kills from Peterson to finish out the match with another 25-20 win.
Lazar had 16 kills and Crawford recorded 10 kills to lead the Falcons (4-15, 0-2 KCAC). Maddy Strecker (SO/Hutchinson, Kan. ) produced a match-high 26 assists and Antonia Perier (SO/Bakersfield, Calif.) had a team-best 15 digs.
Shelby McHargue (12 kills) and Peterson (10 kills) paced the Warriors offensively and Paige Rowland led Sterling with 19 assists. Nyah Isom tallied a team-leading 15 digs for the Warriors (9-9, 2-2 KCAC).
The Falcons will next host the Freddy Spikefest this weekend, starting Friday (Sept. 30) with a conference match vs. York University at 5 pm and then a matchup vs. Haskell Indian Nations University at 7 pm. Friends will then face the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis Saturday morning (Oct. 1) at 11 am.
