Conte reveals three players who will be on Tottenham free-kicks now
Antonio Conte has revealed that Harry Kane will now be joined by Eric Dier and Heung-min Son on free-kick duty for Tottenham Hotspur.
It has long since been a point of discussion in North London, considering Kane’s inability to match his usual goalscoring rate to the art of free-kick taking. While he has scored two goals from set-pieces for Spurs, both deflected off the wall and gave the keeper no chance.
Eric Dier, meanwhile, has a history of scoring for England at a major tournament, while Heung-min Son has whipped a few free-kicks in for South Korea over the past year, including another during this very international break.
It appears that if Tottenham get a free-kick within shooting range against Arsenal this weekend, it will be a fight between the three of them to take control of the ball.
Although Son is very talented on his weaker foot, it is interesting that Conte does not mention a left-footed option like Dejan Kulusevski for set-pieces.
When asked if Son will take free-kicks, Conte said (Football London): “Yeah but Son is one of the three players who have the task to take set pieces. We have him, Harry and Eric Dier. For sure now he has great confidence because he scored.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
Harry Kane is an incredible player and has very few weaknesses in his game, but free-kicks just are not in his wheelhouse. It is a very different technique from normal goalscoring and he should really step aside and let others with a better track record have a go.
