Pundit claims 25-year-old is ready to join a club like Spurs or Arsenal

Simon Jordan has claimed that Leicester City’s James Maddison now appears ready to make a switch to a club like Tottenham Hotspur or Arsenal.

Spurs were reported to be on the lookout for a creative playmaker in the final weeks of the summer transfer window (Evening Standard) and Maddison was mooted as one of the names on the North London club’s radar.

Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube channel last month that the 25-year-old is a player some at Tottenham admire.

However, the attacking midfielder ended up staying put at Leicester, who have had a disastrous start to the season and are currently rooted at the bottom of the Premier League table.

The England international’s current contract at the King Power Stadium runs until the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt) and it remains to be seen whether Spurs or any other club try to poach him from the Foxes in January.

Jordan has now remarked that Maddison has shown signs that he has matured, and backed the attacking midfielder to join a club like Tottenham or Arsenal.

The former Crystal Palace owner told talkSPORT about the Leicester star: “You can only judge these players when they are playing amongst the best sides. Once upon a time, not so long ago, Leicester were a top-six side. 

“He’s a very good player. If you listen to the Danny Murphy’s of the world, who I would bow to the knowledge on, because they have played in that position. He thinks he’s a top-six player. 

“I think it could be argued he could play in some of the top-six sides. I don’t think he gets into Man City’s side. But there are a lot of players who play in the top-six, who couldn’t get into Man City’s side. I am not sure he could play in Liverpool’s side, so that’s two out of the equation.

“But I think he could play in Tottenham’s side. He could play in Arsenal’s side, if they are considered a top-six side, instead of the temporary position they are in now and that might not be the long-term position they stay in. 

“He’s a good player. I think he’s maturing. There is now less Jack-dash about him and sort of smug David Bentley sort of attitude I felt he had at one point. I think James Maddison has all the talent to go up a level and go into a big six club and perform at that level.”

I do not see Maddison signing a new contract at Leicester, and so, the likelihood is that he will leave either in January or next summer. 

However, the 25-year-old as a particularly good fit for Conte’s system, either as a midfielder or as part of the front three.

Maddison is also not the greatest of athletes and does not offer as much out of possession as Conte demands of his players.
